Empty nesters...ready to stretch our wings. Life is good and we plan on making it even better. This blog is mostly about our trips to Vieques Puerto Rico, with a few odds and ends thrown in about our life after the mortgage.

Way too bright.....

Part of the beauty of being older (I'll qualify that as being over 50) is that you have, or should have if you managed to work your behind off for the last 30 years, the ability to take vacations and travel. For us that means getting up @ 2am to make the 2 hour commute to the airport for a 6 a.m. flight to Vieques. Tomorrow we will be doing just that.

Part of the reality of being older (here again that's over 50) is that you really don't enjoy driving at night, or the very early morning as is the case for us.

Am I the only one who's noticed that the current automotive engineers must have migrated over from the razor manufacturing industry? You know, more is better. If one blade is good, let's sell 4. They obviously haven't had any design study in the Ludwig Mies style, "less is more."

I know, your thinking, jeez Curt, your leaving for Vieques tomorrow, why the rant?

It's those times, when your on the eve of a vacation and your not really in the mood to do that last day at work. Nevermind that it's been sooo darn cold here. Anyway, that was this morning and it was during my commute that the headlights on all the new vehicles, especially new trucks, was almost overpowering. A lot of the new vehicles now have 4 headlamps running. What's really happening is that a lot of people are running fog lamps all the time. There are laws regarding this, but they are not consistent from state to state. Generally though:

Front fog lights are aimed and mounted low to increase the illumination directed toward the road surface. However, after sunset and during other low-visibility situations, fog lights are required to be turned off when an oncoming vehicle approaches.

During normal visibility conditions, fog or auxiliary lights should be turned off. It is not appropriate to drive with fog or auxiliary lights left on all the time.

It's a courtesy thing, much akin to driving with your high beams on all the time.

So there you have it. While this old guy is so ready to fly to a much slower, warmer place he doesn't look forward to doing light saber battle with the other vehicles, many of which seem like the one in the below video:

So think about us tomorrow as we do our,  bi-annual, light saber battle on our way to Vieques:

  1. We are here! It took us 29 hours from airport to island due to flight delays and rerouting but it was all worth it to be here in paradise :)

    1. Wow, now that's a pilgrimage!

We'll be spending the night in SJU and then should be on island around 10ish tomorrow, that is "if" the airline gods are smiling upon us.
